Oregon Assessment Guidance Resource Available to All Districts for Assessment Planning

Recognizing that educators at all levels of leadership are faced with many complex decisions around assessment planning, the Oregon Department of Education is providing guidance as well as developing additional professional learning materials to aid districts and schools in their assessment efforts. The goal is to ensure that all assessments used are of high quality and truly support student learning and growth.

As part of this work, the ODE has developed an assessment guidance document, including an assessment vocabulary table, considerations around purchasing or developing assessments, and criteria by which districts may evaluate assessments. Please visit http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=512 to access the Oregon Assessment Guidance document and embedded Oregon Criteria for High Quality Assessments. These criteria may be used by districts to:
  • evaluate assessments already in use;
  • evaluate assessments that districts are considering obtaining from either a commercial source or an open-education resource; and
  • identify key considerations when planning local assessment development.
We will update this document over the coming months based on feedback we receive, and invite you to send your suggestions to Cristen McLean, Assessment Policy Analyst, at cristen.mclean@ode.state.or.us eMail.
