Deputy Superintendent Rob Saxton Statement on TELL Survey

“I want to thank the 19,369 Oregon educators who took the time to participate in the Oregon Teaching, Empowering, Leading, and Learning (TELL) Survey over the past month and a half. This represents just under 60% of our school-based teachers and administrators, and while I would have loved to have heard from every one of our educators, I am very pleased with this showing – especially in our first year of this survey.

“I look forward to receiving the results in May and learning more about the teaching and learning conditions in schools all around the state. Hearing directly from our educators is vital. These are the individuals who work with our students every day, and they are uniquely positioned to tell us what they need in order to be most successful and move the dial on student outcomes.

“I am particularly pleased with the 786 of our schools which reached the 50% participation mark and will be receiving school-level results. These results will help our school communities focus their improvement efforts and will provide the basis for important conversations about improving the teaching and learning conditions in our schools.

“Again, thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this important survey. Your voices are critical as we work to improve our education system, and we will be listening closely to what you had to say.”

The TELL Survey was administered from February 24 through April 7, 2014 to licensed teachers and principals in Oregon’s 197 school districts. TELL Oregon was conducted under the leadership of the Oregon Department of Education and supported by a coalition of education organizations including the Oregon Education Association, the Confederation of Oregon School Administrators, the Oregon School Boards Association, and the Chalkboard Project. School, district, and state-level results will be available online later this spring. To learn more, visit: http://www.telloregon.org/.
