Smarter Balanced Field Test Resources

Smarter Balanced has released several new testing resources for schools and districts that are now available via the Field Test portal:
  1. The Smarter Balanced Field Test FAQ for Test Coordinators and Administrators provides answers to common questions sent to Field Test Help Desks. This document will be updated periodically to address emerging issues.
  2. The Guide to the Smarter Balanced Field Test is a two-page factsheet covering the who, what, why, when, where, and how of the SB Field Test.
  3. Getting Students Ready for the Field Test--Information on Item and Response Types catalogues various item types that students may encounter on the SB assessment, describes student responses to item types, and provides lists where item type examples can be found in the Practice and Training Tests.
  4. The Accessibility Guide for Classroom Activities provides teachers with available support options that may be used during the Classroom Activity for students.
  5. The Guidelines for Read Aloud, Test Reader describe protocols for ensuring read aloud is standardized and contributes to valid measures of students' progress.

Regarding the SB Assessment Scribing Protocol:
The Scribing Protocol for Smarter Balanced Assessments will assist schools and districts in standardizing scribing measures and ensuring that this form of designated support and accommodation provides a valid measure of students’ college and career readiness. Please see the Smarter Balanced Usability, Accessibility, and Accommodations Guidelines (available via the SB Field Test Portal) for specific details regarding the Scribing Protocol.

Regarding Performance Task In-Class Activities:
In-class activity assignments are now posted. However, we have discovered several discrepancies throughout the document and are currently working with ETS and Smarter Balanced to resolve these issues. We will notify districts when an updated, corrected version of this document is available.
