|Smarter Balanced Field Test: Testing Device Requirements Clarification|
Schools that are participating in the Smarter Balanced Field Test, will be required to use the following implements with their testing devices:
Headphones/earphones are required for students to use during the English language arts test listening component and for students who require text-to-speech features on the mathematics test. External microphones or headsets that consist also of a microphone are not required, because the Smarter Balanced Field Test does not assess Speaking.
External keyboards are required in all cases unless specified differently by a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 plan. Any form of external keyboard that disables the on-screen virtual keyboard is acceptable. This includes mechanical, manual, plug and play, and wireless-based (e.g., Bluetooth, RF, IR) keyboards.
A pointing device must be included. This may consist of a mouse, touch screen, touchpad, or other pointing device with which the student is familiar. Touch screen capability is not required to participate in the Smarter Balanced Field Test.
