USDA Nondiscrimination Statement

The Oregon Department of Education is issuing a revised version of USDA's Civil Rights non-discrimination statement. Upon receipt on this memorandum, Sponsors of all Child Nutrition Programs must replace the old "And Justice for All" poster with the new poster containing the revised nondiscrimination statement. The poster must be placed at the service delivery point where it can be read by participants, potential participants, and employees.

All publications that mention USDA Child Nutrition Programs must include the following revised nondiscrimination statement by September 30, 2001:

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the State of Oregon prohibit discrimination in all USDA programs and activities on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age or disability.

To file a complaint of discrimination, write USDA, Director, Office of Civil Rights, Room 326-W, Whitten Building, 14th and Independence Avenue, SW, Washington, D.C. 20250-9410 or call (202) 720-5964 (voice and TDD) or (888) 271-5983 Extension 516 (toll free). USDA and the State of Oregon are equal opportunity providers and employers.

Federal regulations allow use of a shorter nondiscrimination statement on program material less than one page in length; i.e. brochures, coupons, electronic benefit cards, menus, and flyers. The short statement must be in the same size print as the text of the document.

The revised short nondiscrimination statement reads as follows:

"USDA and the State of Oregon are equal opportunity providers and employers."
