The Even Start Statewide Family Literacy Initiative supports efforts to implement research-based strategies, to improve and expand family literacy levels, and improve family awareness of services available to economically and educationally disadvantaged families with young children. Typical goals of Even Start projects include implementation of programs that meet or exceed the performance indicators developed for all Even Start programs, implementation of all four core components, provision for improvement through local evaluations, continual professional development for staff, and on-going communication and involvement with families of children from birth to eight years of age.
