e-Learning for K-12 Students
Welcome K-12 Students
to the e-Learning Distance Education web site! ODE provides here contacts and resources for online learning and videoconference classes offered by Oregon teachers, and other content providers nationwide.
Emerging technologies and the need for all students and teachers to learn and teach to clear-cut standards, established both at the state and federal level, has promoted fundamental changes in education. Over the past 20 years, computer-based technologies have removed the traditional classroom barriers of time and place. Today, teachers, students, and parents embrace e-Learning distance education tools to enhance existing schooling opportunities and to bring resources, that would have been unavailable two decades ago, directly to the classroom.
With all of Oregon’s K-12 schools linked to the Internet, students are now able to access teachers across town or across the state via videoconferencing. They can, at their own convenience, access online courses to expand curriculum opportunities and to augment prospects for quality learning experiences.
On this site, the Oregon Department of Education will help guide students and parents, teachers, and administrators, to e-Learning distance education opportunities throughout the state, and beyond. We will list opportunities for students in:
video-based classes
virtual field trips
live streaming events
online schools and classes
We will attempt to keep you updated on the latest research in the field, local education policies that may affect your options to learn from a distance, and the characteristics of an effective distance-learning alternative.
We will maintain a schedule of one-time videoconference and online events for K-12 students. Here students may discover opportunities to interact with content specialists located in another state, or to interact with students across the country.
