NEW 2012 -2013 Subject Specific Assessment Updates

Welcome Back! The Office of Assessment and Information Systems (OAIS) have developed new Assessment Updates for the 2012-2013 school year. These one page handouts are available for English Language Arts, Math, Science and Social Sciences (ELPA will be posted later this school year). Information related to achievement standards (cut scores), test specifications and blueprints, OAKS online Sample Tests, Local Performance Tasks (Work Samples), Essential Skills, as well as web links to valuable subject specific resources that are available on the Oregon Department of Education Website.

Girl with math books When assessment is an integral part of mathematics instruction, it contributes significantly to all students’ mathematics learning. When assessment is discussed in connection with standards, the focus is sometimes on using tests to certify students’ attainment, but there are other important purposes of assessment. Assessment should be more than merely a test at the end of instruction to see how students perform under special conditions; rather, it should be an integral part of instruction that informs and guides teachers as they make instructional decisions. Assessment should not merely be done to students; rather, it should also be done for students, to guide and enhance their learning.
