The benefits of learning a second language go beyond the lifelong ability to communicate with a greater number of people and an enhanced understanding of another culture. Research has demonstrated that the study of a second language also results in improved academic performance, higher order thinking skills, and increased opportunities for success in the expanding global community. Our challenge is to provide all Oregon students with the opportunity to benefit from the study of a second language.
