SEC 101 B - Preparation
SEC 101 represents a school or district’s initial examination of the surveys and is divided into two stages: Exploratory (101a) and Preparatory (101b). Efforts within SEC 101 result in
Essential Readiness
that will allow schools and districts to move forward with SEC.
The
Preparatory (101b)
period occurs once leadership has made a commitment to undertake SEC and staff is engaged in gathering the necessary materials and planning implementation of the surveys.

SEC as a Tool in the Continuous Improvement Process

The Surveys of Enacted Curriculum, or SEC, are designed to provide schools and districts with information about the degree of alignment between what is expected to be taught (standards) with what is actually taught (classroom instruction). The data that these surveys provide can be a powerful tool for school improvement. This document offers suggestions for how the SEC might fit within a school or district's cycle of school improvement.
Correlation of the Big Ideas in Beginning Reading and the ELA Survey

The purpose of this document is to provide a clear correlation between the data which will be provided when teachers take the English Language Arts survey of enacted curriculum and the five Big Ideas of early literacy: phonemic awareness, alphabetic principle, fluency with text, vocabulary, and comprehension.

The purpose of this Planning Guide is to help districts determine both the purpose and the plan for using the Surveys of Enacted Curriculum with their staff. Best practice indicates that having a plan and purpose in place prior to taking the survey will allow for more targeted and effective analysis of the data provided by the survey.
