Verification of Confidential Applications for Free and Reduced Price Meals
Completion Date for Verification process: November 15, 2006
Due date for Summary of Verification Report: February 23, 2007
Federal law requires schools and institutions participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) to select and verify a sample of their approved free and reduced price applications. The Reauthorization Act of 2004 changed the Verification period to begin October 1 and end November 15 of each school year.
Reauthorization created different verification tracks based on the percentage of non-response by households to the previous year's verification efforts. The non-response rate for your efforts in 2004-05 was less than 20%. You may use any one of the three available verification methods – 3% Random, 1% Plus Focused or 3% Focused. Verification materials describing each method are available at: http://www.ode.state.or.us/services/nutrition/nslp/lunch/
Please note that the Verification Summary Report must be returned to Oregon Department of Education Child Nutrition Programs by February 23, 2007. Submit one report for your organization. If the summary report is not received correctly completed by February 23, 2007, claims for reimbursement will be withheld until the report is received.
If very unusual circumstances make it difficult to complete verification by the deadline, November 15, contact your program specialist no later than October 30, 2006, for information regarding an extension.
If you have any questions, please contact your program specialist or Jennifer Parenteau (503) 947-5890.
