Strategic Initiatives
In July of 2013, the Oregon Legislature passed
House Bill 3232
and
House Bill 3233
which will provide targeted investments to support Oregon’s students and educators. These strategic investments are designed to leverage matching funds and community partnerships to scale best practices, expand proven programs, help turn around under-performing schools, and improve student outcomes in our state.
These initiatives focus on two main areas – support to teachers to make them the best they can be and support to students to improve opportunities and outcomes. The initiatives are:
The Network for Quality Teaching and Learning
– $45.6 million
Creating a Network for Quality Teaching and Learning to ensure Oregon’s teachers have the supports, mentoring, professional development, and training to the best they can be at their jobs.
Strategic Initiatives for Student Success
– $29.3 million
Focusing on
early literacy
with the aim of getting all students reading at grade level by the end of third grade.
Connecting students to the world of work
through expanding Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs.
Creating a college-going culture
in Oregon schools through supporting programs that prepare students for a successful transition to college and encourage the completion of college credits while in high school.
