Design for Writing Essential Skill Workshops - High School Level



    The workshops described below are designed to be delivered by school district personnel using ODE developed materials.


    Level 1 Overview of the Essential Skill of Writing
    (30 - 45 minutes*)
    General audiences

    Level 2 Introductory Training – Using the Writing Scoring Guide

    English Language Arts Teachers
    (2½ to 3 hours*)
    Refresher on Writing Scoring Guide with practice scoring 10 papers; emphasis is on updating scoring accuracy for Essential Skills work samples and classroom uses
    Content Area Teachers
    (90 mins to 2 hours*)
    Introduces Writing Scoring Guide and provides practice scoring 3 papers; emphasis is on classroom use
    Level 3 In-Depth Training – Using the Writing Scoring Guide for Essential Skills Work Samples
    These workshops provide opportunities to expand knowledge of each writing trait and increase accuracy in scoring papers
