Many schools in Oregon have established, in one form or another, a structure for teacher collaboration. Sometimes referred to as Professional Learning Communities or Data Teams, they serve a crucial purpose: they provide a construct for teachers to analyze, discuss, and purposefully plan for improvement. In short, they allow teachers to focus on the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
Effective teams, while critical, are not made simply by placing teachers in a group. The resources on this page are designed to provide support in implementing, monitoring, and sustaining effective teacher teams.

Charting Data
Teams chart data to determine what students know and are able to do. Collecting and graphing data allows teachers to determine which instructional strategies and interventions will be effective.
Analyzing Data
Data is analyzed by Data Teams to identify strengths and weaknesses in student performance and/or the assessment items.
SMART Goals
Effective data teams create SMART goals to allow them to measure student progress on pre/post assessments.
Instructional Strategies
Data teams select instructional strategies that are effective and research-based to improve student achievement.
Results Indicators
Data Teams identify Results Indicators that allow teachers/principals to monitor the impact of effective instruction and define what outcomes are anticipated if the data team process is fully implemented.
Leadership Roles and Responsibilities
Data Team Leaders and Principals have specific roles and responsibilities if the data team process is to be efficient and effective.
Principal Debriefs
Data teams are only minimally effective unless the principal is involved and consistently meeting with data team leader to debrief the data team cycle.
