Statewide Technology Readiness
The SMARTER Balanced Assessment Consortium, in collaboration with the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC), has contracted with Pearson to develop a Technology Readiness Tool to support states’ planning as they transition to next-generation assessments to be launched beginning in 2014. This new open source tool assesses current capacity and compares that to the technology that will be needed to administer the new online assessments in four areas-devices, device-to-student ratio, network infrastructure, and staff and personnel.

The first data collection window will run from April 2 to June 14, 2012. The goal of the first data collection window is to collect easily accessible baseline data. Data collection will occur once each spring and fall through 2014.
While ODE has named Dion Baird as the State Readiness Coordinator (SRC), it was decided that the agency would take a team approach to deploying the Technology Readiness Tool. The SRC team will be comprised of key personnel from ODE and districts throughout Oregon.

Each SRC team member will receive comprehensive information about the upcoming technology readiness survey and resources to assist districts and schools with data collection. It is important to note that this collection is a critical milestone in the first phase of implementation of the 2014-2015 Common Core State Standards for mathematics and English/language arts. It also provides an opportunity to proactively address technology infrastructure, a major concern for districts and schools that goes far beyond assessments.
