Task Force on the Instruction of TAG Children (Senate Bill 330)
Background:
In 2011, Senate Bill 330 from the Regular Session of the 76th Oregon Legislative Assembly established the Task Force on the Instruction of Talented and Gifted Children. Senate Bill 330 was sponsored by Senators Hass, Bonamici, and Devlin, and Representatives Harker and Read. The Talented and Gifted Education Task Force will meet from October 2011 through September 2012. On or before October 1, 2012, the Talented and Gifted Education Task Force is required to submit a report to the interim legislative committees on education. This report may include recommendations for legislation. Members of the Talented and Gifted Education Task Force are appointed by the State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
Talented and Gifted Education Task Force topics to be considered as outlined in Senate Bill 330 are the following:
The topics which the Task Force shall determine are the following:
(a) The resources that are needed to provide instruction to talented and gifted children;
(b) The appropriate level of funding for instruction of talented and gifted children, including potential methods for providing funding; and
(c) The number of children who would benefit from instruction of (as) talented and gifted children.
Operational Topics:
Meeting notices will be posted on the Oregon Department of Education Talented and Gifted Education website two weeks before each meeting date. Meetings are open to the public and public comment is accepted as outlined in each meeting notice.
In general, the Talented and Gifted Education Task Force will meet monthly from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Comments from the public will be accepted beginning at 3:45 p.m. Each contributor is limited to 3 minutes.
