These two new sets of content standards replace Oregon’s current standards in English language arts and mathematics. While this is a challenging task, it is important to note that there are similarities between the CCSS and Oregon’s current standards, and that Oregon teachers are already teaching some of what the Common Core describes.
Implementing the CCSS does not require starting over. What it
does
require is an understanding of the changes that the Common Core represent. Becoming aware of these changes will inform the plan for moving forward.
Making Comparisons
Steps
1. Have teacher groups (such as PLCs) use the "Comparsion of Standards" protocol and template.
01/18/2012 (182 KB)
For this activity it is suggested that teachers only compare two or three standards to get a sense of what content is new, what is the same, and what content is no longer within their grade. Teams will need the Crosswalks in addition to the template above.
