CCSS Toolkit: Administrators - Understand the Design

CCSS Toolkit
The Common Core State Standards for Mathematics and English Language Arts (ELA) & Literacy in History/Social Studies, Science, and Technical Subjects were purposefully designed. The writers of the standards considered not only the unique qualities of each discipline, but decades of research that highlight what changes need to take place to ensure students learn what they need to learn in order to be college and career-ready after high school.

"These Standards are not intended to be new names for old ways of doing business. They are a call to take the next step. It is time for states to work together to build on lessons learned from two decades of standards based reforms."
(p. 5, Introduction to the CCSS for Mathematics)

Understanding the new terminology and structure of the Common Core will help school districts clarify their vision for students and design a plan to make that vision a reality.
