CTE License Decision Chart


Need help determining what forms or licenses are appropriate for you? Use the chart below to find the correct license and form.

You Have: You Want a CTE I: You Want a CTE II: You Want to Add a CTE Endorsement:
A Basic, Initial, Standard, or Continuing Teacher License and no CTE License in the endorsement area. You don’t need two licenses. Apply for an additional endorsement (Form A). You don’t need two licenses. Apply for an additional endorsement (Form A). Use (Form A) to document your Business and Industry Experience.*
A Three-Year CTE license and a Basic, Initial, Standard, or Continuing Teacher License. NA You don’t need two licenses. Apply for an additional endorsement (Form B). Use (Form B) to document your completion of your Three-Year Professional Development Plan.
A Three-Year CTE license. (Five-Year CTE licenses are no longer issued to those who have completed their Three-Year PDP). If you have not completed your professional development plan (PDP) with appropriate literacy and math instruction courses, apply for a CTE I for an additional year. If you have finished your professional development plan and have appropriate literacy and math requirements, apply for a CTE II and send documentation of your completed PDP plan. NA
A Five-Year CTE license. (You have the option to renew the Five-Year under the original requirements.) NA Document additional math and literacy requirements. CTE II . NA
A CTE I license. You need to renew annually demonstrating adequate progress on your Professional Development Plan for the three-year life of your license. Contact TSPC If you have finished all requirements in your professional development plan, apply for a CTE II . NA
A CTE I and need to move to a new district. Transfer district process. (Under Construction) NA NA
A CTE II license. NA NA Use (Form A) to document your Business and Industry Experience.

*If you do not have a minimum of 1800 hours of business and industry experience, you must participate in an Instructor Appraisal Committee process. Contact your local CTE Regional Coordinator PDF.
