Proposed rule for NSLP/SBP Meal Patterns

Background: On Thursday, January 13, 2011, USDA issued a proposed rule to change some regulatory requirements of the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and School Breakfast Program (SBP). The proposed rule includes changes to the NSLP and SBP meal patterns designed to meet the recommendations of the 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans. The implementation date for meal pattern changes in the proposed rule is the 2012-2013 school year.

Action: Program sponsors and community members are encouraged to submit comments on the proposed rule through the website www.regulations.gov by April 13, 2011.

After USDA analyzes the submitted comments, a final rule will be published. Information and training on the final rule will be available at that time.
