Standards-based education tells everyone— students, parents, teachers, administrators— what all students are expected to know and be able to do at specified grade levels. These standards are at the heart of the Oregon Diploma, designed to prepare all students for success in college, work, and citizenship. As a result, standards should be the foundation for all instruction provided at the middle level.
