Federal Teacher Loan Forgiveness Programs
Under certain circumstances, the federal government will cancel or defer all or part of an education loan. Private and non-federal loans are not included in the federal loan forgiveness programs. The following individuals may qualify for federal loan forgiveness programs:
Teachers in the fields of mathematics, science, foreign languages or bilingual education, or in any other field of expertise determined by a state education agency to have a shortage of qualified teachers in that state
Special education teacher, including teachers of infants, toddlers, children, or youth with disabilities
Teachers in a school serving students from low-income families
Peace Corps, Americorps Volunteer, or Volunteers in Service to America (VISTA)
Public or Non-Profit Child or Family Services Agency Employee
