Content Standards Review & Revision
As directed in ORS 329.045, content and assessment specialists at the Department of Education work with Content and Assessment Panels specific to each subject area to develop drafts of the standards. These panels include teachers and administrators representing all geographic regions of Oregon, content specialties and grade levels. Members may also include higher education professionals and representatives from business and industry.
After studying current research, standards from other states, standards from national professional organizations, and recommendations from local and national experts, specialists and panel members prepare initial drafts of the standards. Each draft is posted on the web for external review and public comment from educators, state professional organizations, members of the business community, students, parents, and citizens. The panel reviews input and produces subsequent drafts based on feedback from online reviews and statewide meetings.
While review dates are subject to change, in general standards for each subject are reviewed and revised every seven years. View the

Social Sciences Content Standards Review
Beginning in 2009 the Oregon Department of Education conducted a review and revision of the Social Sciences academic content standards. Meeting agendas, materials, and related information used for the process can be found here. New standards were adopted in August, 2011.

In August of 2009, the revised Second Language Standards were adopted by the State Board of Education.
Instructional Materials
Instructional materials used in Oregon’s classrooms need to reflect the most current information and research, and be tightly aligned to Oregon’s academic content standards.
