Oregon’s
content standards
define what all students should know and be able to do. Statewide
assessments,
or tests, administered at different grades are designed to show a student’s progress toward meeting those standards. The unique needs and interests of students are at the center of Oregon’s standards and assessment system, and a variety of options are available to allow all students to acquire knowledge and demonstrate what they are able to do.
What Students Should Know and Be Able to Do (Content Standards)
Content standards define what all students should know and be able to do.
How Well Students Should Do (Performance Standards)
Achievement/Performance Standards define student performance on state assessments. Performance Assessments are administered in mathematics, English, science, writing and speaking.
English Language Proficiency Standards
The ELP Standards are designed to supplement the ELA standards to ensure that LEP students develop proficiency in both the English language and the concepts and skills contained in the ELA standards.
Oregon's Alternate (Extended) Assessment
The Extended Assessments are alternates to grade level assessments for students with significant disabilities. The decision to administer Oregon’s Extended Assessment (the alternate assessment) can only be made by the student’s IEP team--including the parent.
National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
NAEP is the only national assessment for America's students. This site offers general information about NAEP and provides links to the results for Oregon’s 4th and 8th graders in reading and mathematics.
Common Core State Standards (CCSS)
The goal of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) is to help all students become college- and career-ready by the time they leave high school.
