Professional Development
As the result of reform efforts that began with the Oregon Act for the 21st Century expectations for students, and consequently teachers, have been raised. To meet these new expectations, educators are being asked to master new skills and responsibilities and deepen their content knowledge. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is one way to meet these needs.

Legislative Professional Development Requirements

  • Safety of School Sports - Concussions
During the 2009 Session, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 348 in an attempt to respond to the serious issue of sports-related concussion injuries as a result of inapproproate treatment and diagnosis. This legislation requires individuals engaged in athletic coaching in Oregon be annually trained in recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion and how to seek proper medical treatment for a person suspected of having a concussion.
  • Steroids and Performance-Enhancing Substances Law and Administrative Rule
During the 2008 Session, the content from SB 517 was updated with technical changes as part of Senate Bill 1066. Information can be found on this page.
