Physical Education - Professional Development
As the result of reform efforts that began with the Oregon Act for the 21st Century expectations for students, and consequently teachers, have been raised. To meet these new expectations educators are being asked to master new skills and responsibilities and deepen their content knowledge. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is one way to meet these needs.
Legislative Professional Development Requirements
Safety of School Sports - Concussions
During the 2009 Session, the Legislature passed Senate Bill 348 in an attempt to respond to the serious issue of sports-related concussion injuries as a result of inapproproate treatment and diagnosis. This legislation requires individuals engaged in athletic coaching in Oregon be annually trained in recognizing the signs and symptoms of a concussion and how to seek proper medical treatment for a person suspected of having a concussion.

American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) Calendar
The American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD) is an alliance of five national associations and six district associations and is designed to provide members with a comprehensive and coordinated array of resources, support and programs to help practitioners improve their skills and so further the health and well-being of the American public. Northwest District Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NWD AHPERD)
The Northwest District Association of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (NWD AHPERD) is an integral part of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance dedicated to furthering the purposes of the Alliance. The geographical area of the Northwest District comprises the following states: Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. They hold an annual conference in one of the Northwest states to give practitioners time to improve their skills in teaching physical education.

The Oregon Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (OAHPERD) Conference brings together a variety of talented professionals in Health Education, Physical Education and other allied fields.
The Council for Children's Expanded Physical Education (CCEPE)
As an independent non-profit group of Physical Educators, the Council for Children's Expanded Physical Education (CCEPE) is dedicated to improving children's physical education. The primary yearly task is to organize and conduct the Annual Northwest Conference for Children's Physical Education.
