The final draft version of the Smarter Balanced math content specifications has been released for public review
Standards-based education is the process of basic teaching, learning and assessment that focuses on national, state, and local educational standards. Academic Content Standards are statements of what students are expected to know and be able to do at specified grade levels.
On October 28, 2010 the State Board of Education adopted the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) which represent K-12 learning expectations for students in English-language arts and mathematics. The Common Core State Standards are the foudnation of the
Oregon Diploma
. They reflect the same high academic expecations for all students, and have embedded in them the Essential Skills of reading, writing and applying mathematics. Read more in the

Common Core State Standards for Literacy in Science and Technical Subjects
The 6-12 literacy standards for Science and Technical Subjects are not meant to replace the content standards in the sciences but rather to supplement them. The emphasis in the literacy standards is for students to learn to read and write in English Language Arts and to further develop reading and writing skills specific to science and technical subjects content.

Achieve (in partnership with the Common Core writing team) has convened a group of experts, including state mathematics experts, teachers, mathematics faculty from two and four year institutions, mathematics teacher educators, and workforce representatives to develop Model Course Pathways in Mathematics based on the Common Core State Standards.
