State Education Leaders Reflect on Changing Scores
Please note the following:
The percent of students meeting the standard in
mathematics in 2010-11 and subsequent years is
not
comparable to previous years’ results.
In a move to prepare students for the increased rigors of the new
Common Core State Standards
and the
Oregon Diploma
, the Oregon State Board of Education voted on October 28, 2010 to
increase math achievement standards (cut scores)
for grades 3-8, effective for the 2010-11 school year. The previous high school cut score for "Meets" of 236 remains the same.

reading/literature in 2011-12 and subsequent years is
not
comparable to previous years’ results.
In a move to prepare students for the increased rigors of the new

, the Oregon State Board of Education adopted
new reading achievement standards (cut scores)
for grades 3-8, effective for the 2011-12 school year. The current high school cut score for "Meets" of 236 remains the same.
Due to budgetary restrictions, during its 2011 Session, the Oregon State Legislature determined that the Writing Performance Assessment will only be available for students enrolled in
Grade 11
who have not already met or exceeded the state achievement standard on the Writing assessment. As described in
ODE Numbered Memorandum # 001-2011-12
, this restriction went into effect starting in 2011-12.
