As of today, June 6, 2014, Oregon students in select schools across the state successfully completed the Smarter Balanced field test. Along with more than 4 million students nationwide, approximately 40,000 Oregon students from 221 schools across 90 districts participated in the field test, making this effort one of the largest in history. A preliminary collection of student responses to the field test reveals that Oregon students found Smarter Balanced to be “harder,” “more interactive,” and “less boring” than their previous OAKS tests. The field test stands as just one of many activities Smarter Balanced member states are conducting to develop a fair, technically sound assessment system aligned to college-and career-ready standards. Congratulations to the thousands of teachers, administrators, and students across the nation who contributed to a successful field test.
