We are recruiting for a full-time Executive Assistant. This position is located with the Office of the Deputy Superintendent at the Oregon Department of Education in Salem, Oregon. This is an Executive Service position, appointed by and serving at the will of the Deputy Superintendent of Public Instruction.
This position is in the Deputy Superintendent’s Office who is the administrative head of the Department of Education. The Governor who is the Superintendent of Public Instruction has delegated to the Deputy Superintendent the responsibility of performing all of the duties, functions and powers of the Superintendent. The Deputy Superintendent is the chief executive officer for the State Board of Education and is responsible for interpreting and administering Board policies and rules. The Deputy Superintendent also heads the Department of Education and provides direction for the School for the Deaf and Juvenile Corrections Education Programs.
This position provides executive assistance to the Deputy Superintendent as a personal and confidential secretary. Additionally, this position manages day to day office operations, policies, procedures and programs of the Office of the Deputy Superintendent, and provides backup support to the Chief of Staff and the Executive Officer to the State board of Education, Government Affairs/Legal Manager, Legislative Director, Communications Director, and State Board of Education on an as needed basis. This position also serves as the Coordinator for the Oregon Teacher of the Year recognition program.

The successful candidate will at a minimum have:
Four years of staff-level experience providing administrative support to management. The experience must include technical or analytical duties in the management of program goals and objectives; performing program or project planning; preparing, monitoring, or controlling budgets; or performing research and providing analytical information and/or recommendations used in management decision making.
A Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Management, Public Administration or a closely-related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.
Preference may be given to individuals with experience in education and/or state government.
