We are recruiting for a limited duration, full-time position with the Deputy Superintendent’s Office at the Oregon Department of Education in Salem, Oregon. This position is classified and represented by Service Employees International Union (SEIU).
The Common Core Communications Coordinator is responsible for coordinating communications efforts related to the Common Core State Standards. This coordination is done in conjunction with the Communications Director, the Common Core Lead, and the Assessment Communications Coordinator.
The person in this position is responsible for responding to common core constituent questions; creating common core related communications plans; coordination of the college and career ready coalition; creation of common core talking points, resources, and documents; and improving systems of common core related communications.
In addition, this position provides general communications support to the ODE communications director including serving as media back up and assisting with general agency communications needs.
This position has the authority to represent department positions to the news media and other audiences in collaboration with the Communications Director. This position performs duties requiring confidentiality and knowledge of office operations, policies, and procedures.

The successful candidate will at a minimum have:
A Bachelor's Degree in Business or Public Administration, Behavioral or Social Sciences, or a degree related to Communications, English, or Journalism; AND five years experience coordinating or administering a program related to communications, public affairs, public relations, or a related area. OR
Any combination of experience or education equivalent to eight years of experience coordinating or administering a program related to communications, public affairs, public relations, or a related area.
