|Voice Over and Speak Selection on iPads|
New for 2013-14, OAKS Online testing is supported on iPads. ODE's test vendor AIR has recently identified that the OAKS Secure Browser is not currently able to block the iPad Voice Over and Speak Selection accessibility features while testing is in progress. If students activate these accessibility features during testing, this means that students testing on iPads can have reading passages read aloud to them - a non-allowable resource for the OAKS Reading assessment.
AIR is actively working with Apple to automatically disable these accessibility features when the OAKS Secure Browser is open. In the meantime, to avoid inadvertent test improprieties that may require the invalidation of tests, ODE advises districts testing on iPads to please ensure that these accessibility features are turned off on all iPads used for secure student testing. To manually disable these features on the iPad: go to Settings > General > Accessibility and turn Voice Over and Speak Selection off.
