|Decision-Making Around Retest Opportunities|
OAKS Online testing resumed this week, and OAKS retest opportunities are now available for those districts with policies allowing for students to retest. As a reminder, districts may only retest students in grades 3 - 8 who have already met or exceeded the standard if the district first receives explicit parental consent. Criteria for collecting explicit parental consent are included on p. 35 of the Test Administration Manual.
To help guide district decision-making around whether to pursue retesting students, the Best Practices Guide provides guidance on how to appropriately identify students who would benefit from an opportunity to retest. In addition, the Trends in Retesting Students Brief: 2012-13 recently published by ODE provides an analysis of state-level retesting trends for 2012-13. While this brief does not draw conclusions about the local conditions that may have affected student performance from one test opportunity to the next, it may serve as a useful resource for districts to conduct their own internal analysis of district retesting policies to help inform decision-making around retest opportunities for 2013-14.
