Comparison Group Reports for 2012-2013

Socioeconomic status (SES) Ranks and Comparison Groups for the 2012-2013 Oregon Statewide Assessment results for reading/literature and mathematics (grades 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 11), writing (grades 11 and 12), and science (grades 5, 8, and 11) are now available online at http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?=3863.

Schools are listed by grade and SES rank with their percentage of students who met or exceeded the standard and their comparison group percent of students who met or exceeded the standard. Each subject area is contained in a separate tab in the spreadsheet.

A composite picture of a school's socioeconomic status is created based on a weighted combination of the percent of students eligible for free or reduced price lunch, percent of students in an ESL program, student mobility rate, and student attendance rate.

A school's comparison group consists of the cluster of schools ranked immediately above and below that school's location on the SES index (10 percent above and 10 percent below the particular school). For schools ranked in the upper or lower 10 percent on the SES index, their comparison group consists of the upper or lower 20 percent of schools.

Please note that the SES Ranks and Comparison groups in the report are not those being used on the school report cards that are currently available for preview. The “Like Schools” comparisons on the school and district report cards use a slightly different methodology.
More information on the “Like Schools” methodology will be forthcoming.
