College and Career Ready English Language Proficiency Standards: Timeline for District Implementation
The Oregon Department of Education has received the new draft English Language Proficiency standards from the Council of Chief State School Officers (CCSSO) and WestEd and is currently seeking review and feedback on the standards. Pending formal adoption of the new standards in fall of 2013, ODE and an advisory team would review and recommend instructional materials in August, 2014. The State Board of Education would then adopt instructional materials in October, 2014, with the materials required to be in classrooms by the fall of the 2015-2016 school year. This provides districts with two years of having the new standards and one full year with the new instructional materials prior to the ELPA21 assessment, which is anticipated to replace the Oregon ELPA in the 2016-2017 school year. A review of the draft standards will begin today, August 2, and will conclude on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.

To review the standards and participate in the survey process, please visit this web address: http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/results/?id=36.

Thank you for your participation in this review process. We greatly value your feedback and insight as we finalize the new English Language Proficiency standards.
