|College and Career Ready English Language Proficiency Standards: Timeline for District Implementation|
The Oregon Department of Education anticipates the new English language proficiency standards in draft form later this summer, with finalization and formal adoption planned in the fall. Once adopted, ODE anticipates implementation of the new standards in the fall of 2014-2015. Pending formal adoption of the new standards in fall of 2013-2014, ODE and the advisory team will review and recommend instruction materials in August, 2014. The State Board of Education would then adopt instruction materials in October, 2014, with the materials required to be in classrooms by the fall of 2015-2016. This provides districts with two years of having the new standards and one full year with the new instructional materials prior to the ELPA21 assessment, which is anticipated to replace the Oregon ELPA in the 2016-2017 school year. A review of the draft standards will begin on Friday, August 2, 2013 and will conclude on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 5:00 p.m.
