|Staffing Change in Office of Assessment and Information Services|
As many of you already know, Josh Klein's last day at the Oregon Department of Education will be May 27, 2013. He has accepted the position of Chief Information Officer for Portland Public Schools. During his eleven years with ODE Josh has been an incredible asset to the organization, we are sad to see Josh leave but know that he will be connected to our work through his new position and will be a trusted advisor from the field. Josh has staffed his work units with talented staff and created one of the most effective IT infrastructures in state government. The PPS staff, students and community are very lucky to obtain someone with his unique talents.
Effective May 28, 2013, Derek Brown, currently a Manager in the Office of Assessment and Information Services, will be the Interim Chief Information Officer for ODE while we recruit for Josh's replacement. Derek will primarily assume the responsibility for managing Josh's current direct reports including the Project Management Office.
Derek was selected due to his excellent management skills and because he has indicated he is not interested in taking on this position permanently allowing for any qualified internal staff to apply for the position through a fully competitive process.
Derek can be reached at 503-947-5841 or email@example.com .
