|Coming Soon – Last Chance to Provide Feedback on the Draft Next Generation Science Standards|
Oregon is one of 26 lead states working with Achieve through a collaborative, state-led process, to develop new K-12 science standards that will be rich in content and practice and arranged in a coherent manner across disciplines and grades to provide all students an internationally benchmarked science education. These standards will build on the good work done in Oregon to develop the 2009 Science Standards.
The second and last public draft of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) will be available for review and feedback in late November or early December. As soon as they are available, the review dates and link to the survey will be available on the ODE NGSS webpage and on the Achieve NGSS webpage, as well as announced in the Oregon Science Teacher Update and in a news items on the ODE website.
The goal of this last public release is to receive feedback from interested stakeholders through a transparent process. The draft will be available for public comment for three weeks. The feedback received will be used to revise the draft. In no way should any statement within the draft be viewed as final. Please take advantage of this opportunity to make your voice heard and help shape these Next Generation Science Standards.
The NGSS will be based on the Framework for K-12 Science Education developed by the National Research Council.
