In preparation for its 2012–13 pilot tests, the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (Smarter) will be conducting Small Scale Trials of innovative test items from October 15 to November 2, 2012. The Small Scale Trials will be computer-administered and will gather student responses needed to inform automated and human scoring for future Smarter tests. Smarter has developed a sampling plan that identifies specific districts and schools across member states for participation in the Small Scale Trials. Smarter randomly selected 31 schools from across the state of Oregon to participate in this exciting assessment opportunity. Each participating school will administer a single test form to students in one randomly selected classroom for one grade within the school (either grade 4, 7, or 11). Approximately 30 students will take a test form consisting of 15-18 selected-response and constructed-response items.
