ELPA Performance Standards Verification Event: November 6-9, 2012

The recruitment period for the English Level Proficiency Assessment (ELPA) Standards Verification Workshop has ended. Many well-qualified applicants have expressed interested in participating in this work. In order to facilitate the most meaningful and effective process, ODE staff is reviewing application materials in order to match the required roles and responsibilities with candidate qualifications. Due to the overwhelming response and limited number of available positions, there may be some qualified individuals that will not be selected to participate. Over the next few weeks, all applicants will receive a communication; those selected to participate will be notified of their role in the work group, as well as administrative and logistics information. The ELPA Standards Verification workshop will take place on Tuesday, November 6 through Friday, November 9, 2012 and will examine the consistency and coherence of the ELP performance standards, which were established in 2008. The standards verification Workshop will include data from a number of analytical studies, including the ELPA contrasting groups study. The contrasting group study was conducted in collaboration with school districts, examining teacher professional judgment of student English language proficiency. These data were then compared to actual ELPA scores. Grade-by-grade results and interpretation will be shared at the workshop
