Save the Date! Please mark your calendar for the 2nd annual Innovative Schools Conference, October 12, 2012 in Gervais: The 1st annual Northwest Innovative Schools Conference occurred in 2011 to address isolation expressed by alternative school educators and administrators. The one-day conference was held at Gervais High School in Gervais, Oregon where approximately 150 staff from innovative schools gathered and attended workshops focused on professional learning designed to support alternative school educators and administrators. The 2nd annual NWISN Conference will offer a similar format with a low cost that includes lunch and breakout sessions on Common Core State Standards, Oregon Diploma and Essential Skills, the New GED, Career Related Learning, Credit by Proficiency, Social Media, Design and Evaluation, Accreditation and Alternative School Funding. Last year, conference participants expressed interest in attending a conference with these topics and requested webinars to extend topics that were presented that were relevant to innovative alternative schools. Post conference event - Alternative Accountability Meeting Materials: Agenda ![]() DRAFT Alternative Accountability Metrics ![]() DRAFT customized Planning Process Tool (CPPT) Indicators ![]() Associated 2012 Northwest Innovative Schools Network (NWISN) Webinars: • The 1st NWISN webinar took place February 17, 2012 and was titled "PBIS in Alternative Education" and included a presentation by Dr. Jeff Sprague, from the University of Oregon Institute on Violence and Destructive Behavior. Dr. Sprague's presentation slides and a video archive are below to support those who were not able to attend the webinar. • The 2nd NWISN webinar took place May 18, 2012 and was titled “Data Teams in Alternative Education” and was focused on Data Teams in Alternative Education. Mickey Garrison, Training Director for the Oregon Direct Access to Achievement (DATA) Project, will share insights and resources available to support alternative schools in using their date to demonstrate student growth and achievement. • The next scheduled event is the annual Innovative Schools Conference, October 12th in Gervais.
