The State Board of Education has approved a change to the policy requirement regarding writing work samples (used as evidence to satisfy the Essential Skill of Writing graduation requirement), realigning the requirement for sufficient documentation of evidence from three to two work samples. Of the two required writing work samples, at least one must be in the expository or persuasive mode, the second may be in expository, persuasive, or narrative (personal or fictional) mode. This policy change is effective immediately, although it will not be reflected in the Test Administration Manual until the next revision of the document.
Here is a summary of the revised policy:
| Writing Work Sample Requirements |

| New Requirement: Two Writing work samples (at least one expository or persuasive; the second may be expository, persuasive, or narrative (personal or fictional) |
Score: 4 on each of the four required traits for both work samples (using Official State Writing Scoring Guide) |
