State Board of Education August 2011 Actions

• Adopted Virtual Charter School Student Appeals OAR 581-020-0342, -0343 (temp.)
• Adopted rules that give charter schools students’ special education responsibilities (OAR 581-015-2005; -2010; -2040; -2075; -2080) (temp.)
• Adopted new social sciences standards
• Adopted the June 2011 board minutes
• Approved Commissioner Preus’ out-of-state travel
• Approved Oregon High School Nordic Organization bylaw/policy changes
• Approved Sena Norton as the new K-12 teacher advisor
• Adopted the (revised) 2012 board meeting schedule
• Directed staff to send the Governor a letter of education transformation recommendations, based on the previous days’ discussion
• Elected NASBE officers
• Adopted agency work plans, with the understanding they would be updated
• Updated board workgroup assignments:
• Internal Auditor (budget note): Henry, for interview committee
• ODE Strategic Plan for ODE’s Operations Budget (budget note): Frank
• 2012 Legislative Committee: Wyse, Henry, Frank (back up)
