For immediate releasecontact Jake Weigler, (503) 947-5650 October 21, 2009 Oregon Selects Two Distinguished Schools for National Award SALEM - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Susan Castillo today announced her nomination of two Oregon schools for this year’s National Title I Distinguished Schools Program. Beaver Acres Elementary in the Beaverton School District was nominated for exceptional student performance for two or more consecutive years and Garfield Elementary in the Corvallis School District was nominated for closing the achievement gap between student groups. Each of the recipients will receive a $5,000 award from the National Association of State Title I Directors in recognition of their achievements. The selected schools will also be commended at the National Title I Conference in Washington, D.C. January 21-24, 2010. Representatives from each of the schools will be honored during the Distinguished School Parade of States. Additionally, the representatives will participate in panel discussions and breakout sessions on successful practices of the current National Title I Distinguished Schools.
