For immediate releasecontact Susanne Smith, (503) 947-5637 July 6, 2009 ODE Announces Hiring of Jake Weigler as Communications Director SALEM - State Superintendent Susan Castillo announced today that Jake Weigler has been hired as the Oregon Department of Education’s (ODE) Communications Director. He will manage day-to-day communications with the public and media for ODE. Weigler comes to the Department after working as campaign director for the Healthy Climate Partnership, a broad-based coalition working on climate change issues in Oregon. He has worked on numerous political campaigns in Oregon, Texas and Washington D.C. Weigler grew up in Oregon and lives in Southeast Portland with his wife, Heather. Weigler has also served previously in Oregon State Government as Deputy Communications Director for Governor Ted Kulongoski and Communications Director for former Attorney General Hardy Myers. “Jake’s unique combination of communication, legislative, and agency experience will be a tremendous asset for the Oregon Department of Education,” Castillo said. “His familiarity with education policy and stakeholders will enable him to hit the ground running. I am excited to add Jake to our team.”
