Susan Castillo Statement on Chalkboard and McMinnville School District’s Successful National Bid for Combined $20M in Federal Funding

SALEM – “This is a proud day for Oregon and terrific news for our students. Congratulations to both Chalkboard and McMinnville School District for winning a combined $20M in Teacher Incentive Grants from the federal government. Both are reforming the way our state works with teachers and administrators in order to increase student achievement. Both have shown tremendous commitment to doing what is best for our students by providing leadership that empowers and supports educators with the end goal of raising student achievement.”

The Teacher Incentive Fund program supports efforts to develop and implement performance-based teacher and principal compensation systems in high-need schools.

Goals include:

Improving student achievement by increasing teacher and principal effectiveness;

Reforming teacher and principal compensation systems so that teachers and principals are rewarded for increases in student achievement;

Increasing the number of effective teachers teaching poor, minority, and disadvantaged students in hard-to-staff subjects; and
Creating sustainable performance-based compensation systems.
