|NOMINATIONS REQUESTED: A state-wide validation panel to review CCSS and Oregon Standards in Math|
|During the October 2010 meeting of the Oregon State Board of Education, Board members will vote on whether or not to adopt the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts and Mathematics to replace Oregon’s current standards in these subject areas. To provide the Board with additional information prior to the October meeting, the Oregon Department of Education (ODE) is seeking involvement from the Oregon mathematics education community.
At this time, ODE is accepting nominations for a state-wide panel of Mathematics experts to review and validate a standard-by-standard comparison of the Oregon and CCSS mathematics standards. The meeting will be held in Portland on Monday, October 4th. It is acceptable to self-nominate or nominate multiple individuals you believe should be on the validation committee. The department is seeking to assemble a representative group that includes: K-12 teachers, district math specialists, ESD specialists, community college and university faculty.
Reimbursement information is available upon request.
Nominations can be submitted online at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/XTJCX7F The nomination process will close at 8:00 AM on Tuesday, September 21st. At that time, ODE staff will select validation committee members that represent a variety of voices across the state, thus geographical representation will be a key consideration. All nominees will be notified of their selection status as soon as possible so that travel arrangements can be made. A link to the Math Validation Committee nomination form will also be available on the ODE website at http://www.ode.state.or.us/go/math Your input is invaluable as the Board considers this important decision.
