Nominees Sought for 2010 Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching
The Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th-grade mathematics or science teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States. Nominate outstanding elementary, grades K-6, mathematics and science teachers now for the 2010 awards. (Nominations for secondary school teachers, grades 7-12, will be accepted in 2011.)

The following are eligibility criteria for nominees. They must:
  • Teach mathematics or science at the K-6th grade level in a public or private school.
  • Hold at least a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Be a full-time employee of the school or school district as determined by state and district policies, and teach at least 50% of the time.
  • Have at least 5 years of full-time, K-12 teacher experience prior to the 2009-2010 academic school year.
  • Not have received the PAEMST award at the national level in any prior competition or category.
The online nomination form is available at www.paemst.org. The deadline for nominations is Thursday, April 1, 2010. The nomination form should be completed early enough to ensure that the nominated teacher is given enough time to thoroughly prepare an application that reflects exemplary teaching prior to the application deadline.

Shortly after they are nominated, all nominees will be contacted by e-mail and will be invited to submit an application to be considered for a state finalist award. The deadline for nominated teachers submitting applications is Monday, May 3, 2010. Nominees will be asked to send most application items electronically.
