Eddie Eagle Gun Safety Program

The Oregon Department of Education recommends that schools consider using the "Eddie Eagle" gun safety program, an accident prevention program for students in grades K-6.

The program, provided by the National Rifle Association, offers a simple but important message; "If you see a gun, stop, don't touch, leave the area and tell an adult."

More than 10 million students across the country have received "Eddie Eagle" lessons.
There are three levels:

  • Level 1 (preschool through grade 2) - Includes a motivational "big book" written
    in an easy-to-understand rhyme.
  • Level 2 (grades 3-4) - Uses simple activity books to reinforce Eddie's safety message.
  • Level 3 (grades 5-6) - Includes activity books designed for older children.

All three levels include an instructor's program and discussion guide, a seven-minute animated VHS video, a poster, an audio cassette, rewards for students, and a letter to parents.

For the materials and more information on the program, contact the Oregon "Eddie Eagle" coordinator: Tim Pitzer, call (541) 928-2460 (or e-mail timpitzer@home.com)
