2002 Teacher of the Year Deborah White

Deborah White, a Title 1 teacher in reading and mathematics at Lyle Elementary School in Dallas, OR, is the 2002 Oregon Teacher of the Year.  White has taught reading and math to grades 1 through 3 for the last eight years. She has been a teacher for 21 years.

"Deborah operates from the philosophy that all children can learn to read, write and understand mathematical concepts," said Lyle principal Christy M. Perry.  "She works diligently to provide strategies and support for our most struggling readers.  Deborah has high expectations for her students and earns the respect of her students in return.  Many students have become strong readers due to the efforts of Deborah White."  Please click here to read Deborah's professional biography.

She is eligible for the National Teacher of the Year program sponsored by the Council of Chief State School Officers; U.S. Department of Education; Scholastic, Inc.; and SMARTer Kids Foundation.
